About

I am a twenty-something teacher and reader who watches way too much Youtube.  I teach 7th grade English.  I hope to pass on a love of reading and a respect for all people to each of my kids.

I am married to a wonderful guy.  I love reading, singing, trying new recipes, taking long walks, talking late into the night, stargazing, playing the piano, knitting, fairytale retellings, Jane Austen, Edgar Allen Poe, Doctor Who, Downton Abbey, chocolate, ice cream, frozen yogurt, and a whole host of other things.  I am also a proud member Hufflepuff House.

I'm happy to answer any questions you may have; just shoot me an email at oruptothestarstessa (at) gmail (dot) com.

The title of my blog comes from one of my favorite plays:  Cyrano de Bergerac by Edmund Rostand.  If you haven't watch it, do so now.  In the amazing version in English with Kevin Kline the nefarious Count De Guishe, mocking Cyrano's idealism, asks him to ponder the windmill chapter in Don Quixote.  He says the windmills will "swing their long arms and throw you down into the mud."  Unperturbed, Cyrano responds by lifting up eyes and saying "Or up to the stars."  I loved that quote and have since tried to make that a motto for my life.  Yes, I can fail when I try new things, or I can swing up to the stars.  Come with me, if you'd like.

P.S. Thank you to Winepress of Words for letting me borrow their social media buttons.
